Class VII ATL Bay
Major components of a traditional MOT facility have been supplemented or modified to meet ATL requirements.
Brake testers must be able to operate and assess vehicle brakes automatically and to a visually prompted procedure. The results will be used in conjunction with a weighing system to provide true, actual brake efficiency values.
Play detection equipment must be provided with the lift or pit that will place the vehicle suspension under a known and consistent level of duress.
Headlamp testers must be able to provide clear images of the headlamp beam for all current vehicle types, including hi-energy (Xenon) or complex headlamp systems (beams shaped by the reflector).
It is feasible for an ATL type MOT test to be carried out by one person. To achieve this, the mandatory equipment requirements also include a brake pedal depressor and system of mirrors to enable the examiner to view all aspects of a vehicle from a single position.
